Ottawa, the capital of Canada, is located in the province of Ontario and is the fourth largest city of Canada. Ottawa is a place to discover Canada’s proud heritage through its impressive national sites and famous landmarks that include the 7.8 kilometer long Rideau Canal (a UNESCO World Heritage Site); which in winter, becomes the world's largest naturally frozen skating rink. It is a city steeped in culture, with world-class museums and galleries displaying stunning national collections and special exhibitions from Canada and around the world.

Visa support letters can be requested by contacting Yvan Labiche at labiche@sce.carleton.ca. Note that a Visa support letter is no guarantee of attendance; only a completed registration with paid fees does guarantee attendance.

Visa support letters (in PDF) will be issued to attendees via email. If an attendee requires a paper copy, the attendee must provide a Federal Express or DHL account number to be charged. Please note that the conference cancellation policy applies to all attendees, so we recommend that attendees requiring visa support letters take action early.

How to reach Ottawa

Travelling to Canada's Capital is fast and easy. Ottawa is easily accessible by air, rail and road. The Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International Airport is located in the south of the capital and is a 20 minute drive from downtown Ottawa. It offers more than 120 non stop daily flights to more than 50 destinations within Canada, United States and Europe. Ottawa can be reached from many cities in the USA as well as Frankfort and London by direct flight. Through daily connections with Toronto and Montreal, as well as Vancouver, the world is just one little step further from Ottawa.

Ottawa can be reached by train using Canada's Via Rail network from all major cities in southern Ontario and southern Quebec.

You can drive to Ottawa by taking the highway 401 east bound and highway 416 north bound from Greater Toronto Area and highway 417 west bound from Montreal. Additionally, Ottawa can also be reached by bus using Greyhound bus service.

Getting around Ottawa

Ottawa is widely connected through its public transit known as OCTranspo and La Société de Transport de l'Outaouais STO which operates from the Quebec side of the Ottawa River. Both are frequent and extremely reliable.  

Ottawa is home to 170 kilometers of safe pathways, trails and sidewalks, dedicated specifically to those who prefer to absorb the beauty of the city by foot. 

Car rental companies such as Avis, Budget, Enterprise etc also provide means of transportation. 

Blue Line Taxi, Capital Taxi, West Way Taxi etc.are some of the taxi services that can be utilized for an easier and faster access to the city.
